British Champions Day tips and race-by-race verdicts
Six races, a multi-million prize fund and the last big Flat day of the season. Our analyst publishes a verdict for every race on the morning of the meeting — with the chance we give each contender and whether there is a bet at the price.
The races
Race times appear here once declarations are out, usually two days before the meeting.
Why the ground decides Champions Day
Mid-October at Ascot usually means soft going. Horses that have never won on soft are opposable, and stamina for the uphill finish counts double. Our suitability grid shows every runner's record by going.
Draw on the straight course
In the sprint, runners can split into two groups. When the ground is soft, one side can hold an edge — check the track-bias map on the race card.
How to use our verdicts
Each verdict gives our chance for the main contenders and the lowest price worth taking. If the price has gone below it, we would rather pass — and so should you.
